The Canon EOS RP is a full-frame mirrorless camera with a 26.2-megapixel CMOS sensor and the DIGIC 8 processor, which together, create for exceptional images in varying light conditions. An incredible native ISO range of 1–4 is expandable to 5–124. Snap photos at a quick 5 fps using any of Canon’s RF lenses or EF/EF-S lenses with an adaptor.
The Dual Pixel CMOS autofocus system, Canon’s signature, with two photodiodes per pixel, has 4,779 focus points that you can select for even more control over your focus. This system is not only fast and stunningly accurate, but it’s also indispensable in the lowest light conditions, down to EV-5. A mode dial atop the camera makes it easy to shift to manual focus or engage one of this camera’s many scene modes, including silent, which turns the shutter off.
Be sure to take advantage of the in-camera Digital Lens Optimizer, which mitigates the effects of low-pass filters or wide-apertures, giving you crisper images. It’s available while developing RAW data and while shooting because the communication between the lens and camera takes place instantaneously.
Compose your shots with ease. The EOS RP has a 2.36 million-dot, .39-inch OLED electronic viewfinder (EVF) with a 22mm eyepoint. If you prefer to create using live view, you’ll appreciate the 3.-inch, 1.4 megapixel, vari-angle touchscreen LCD. It’s on the LCD where you can take advantage of features such as Touch and Drag AF. Touch and Drag AF allows you to use the EVF and LCD simultaneously, which means that you can change your focus while keeping your eyes on your subject since your focus point will be confirmed via the viewfinder.
The EOS RP is a natural choice when you need to record professional-grade video in addition to high-quality stills. Choose from UHD 4K at up to 23.98 fps with a 1.8x crop, full HD at up to 59.94 fps, and HD at up to 59.94 fps. Shooting can be done in MPEG-4 AVC/H.264, and you can connect an external microphone through the 3.5mm input while monitoring audio quality via the 3.5mm headphone jack. Export your files through the mini HDMI (Type C).
The LP-E17 battery is good for up to 55 shots per charge when using the viewfinder. Additionally, the available USB Power Adapter PD-E1 will allow for in- camera charging via USB.
One memory card slot supports SD, SDHC, SDXC, and UHS-II (which is a must- have for 4K video). Stills are stored in JPEG or RAW files. This weather resistant camera also has built-in WiFi and Bluetooth, and with Canon’s Camera Connect, you can easily share and geotag photos, or turn your smart device into a remote control.
