A more compact version of the DJI Ronin-S, the DJI Ronin-SC Gimbal is
designed to support less substantial mirrorless cameras weighing up to 4.4
pounds. This gimbal was made for single-handed stabilization, and doesn’t
skimp on features: it has axis lock, Active Track, Force Mobile, and 360° of
continuous panning—plus you can control roll, pan, and tilt from your
smartphone. Weighing in at just 2.4 pounds, it has a light footprint and is
perfect for travel.
Its small size makes it easier to get through long shoots, and when you’re
traveling to multiple locations, you’ll appreciate the quick-release camera
plate, which keeps your camera balanced during travel. All you have to do is
balance your camera while locked and unmount the plate while the camera
is still attached. Once you get to the next spot, just remount, unlock, and
turn on. No rebalancing needed.
The many features of this model are designed to make your life easier. A
built-in record button and joystick give you better control, and you can
access Sport Mode at the touch of a button, which will provide faster
tracking when the action speeds up. But you won’t even need to use it,
thanks to the connectivity of this gimbal. Active Track is accessible from
your smartphone via Bluetooth and the Ronin app and will track subjects
without adjusting settings on the gimbal at all—a feature similar to DJI
drones’ subject tracking. When the DJI Ronin-SC is mounted, you can
employ Force Mobile and control its motion with your smartphone, which will
mirror your movements.
You won’t have to think about your battery life during most shoots. The
2450mAh rechargeable 18650 LiPo battery is good for up to 11 hours of
stabilizing on a single charge, depending on the weight of the camera and
lens. Since accessories like the optional focus motor abound, the DJI Ronin-
SC has a USB Type-C input and 1/4”–20 and 3/8”–16 threaded holes that
allow for secure, fast attachment.
